Diet Soda? Yes or No
According to the San Antonio Heart Study, the more diet sodas you drink, the greater the chance that you will be overweight or obese. For each diet soda you drink there is a 65 percent increase in your risk of becoming overweight.
According to the Framingham Heart Study, if you drink diet soda you are at risk for weight gain and metabolic syndrome.
According to research done at Purdue University, rats that were fed artificial sweeteners gained more weight than rats fed normal sugar.
These were off an article on “Everyday Health” this morning.
I keep hearing more and more about Diet Soda being bad for you. I wonder if this is one of the things I should cut out? I normally have 2 aday…sometimes more if Hubby is home. I really do not feel that it makes me hungrier. But.. then again.. everything makes me hungry..
I had recently read that as well. And I agree. the artificial sweeteners are being proved that they are no better or worse for you than say High fructose corn syrup. And that you should be having (if at all) REAL CANE sugar. We have cut out soda all together at our house and only have if we go out to eat, but I have got the kids use to ordering just water or iced tea and they are foregoing the soda. So choices with out the artificial sweeteners…. hmmm not much but things sweetened with Truvia. Tracie have you tried Truvia? GREAT in iced tea and it is all natural!!
I am against diet drinks…. they are chemically altered and cause migraines …… I have heard good things about trivia…. i try to drink lower more water and drinks that aren’t to calorie high….. and when eatting out i order ice water and tea….. I also don’t eat margarine either as its chemically engineered…. the more you can stay on the road of natural products the better it is for you and has drastically reduced to almost no mirgaines anymore .. where as before i cared i was constantly getting them to the point i would have to be taken to the hospital… My favorite pop is ginger ale ( Canada dry) the ginger helps my tummy and i limit myself as to how many i can have a week …..
I have just recently switched “back” to diet soda. I thought the same as the natural sugars vs. artificial, but me personally…..I tend to drink more actual soda than diet. I don’t know if it is the taste difference or what…..but I do not drink nearly as much diet. I am trying to slowly wean back off of caffeine altogether, but it is taking me a little time.
I’ve had been struggling for month after month just to lose the same 2 or 3 pounds…….then a friend told me that her friend lost 10 pounds just by giving up diet soda…..so I said, what the heck, I’ve tried EVERYTHING else! At the same time, I also started counting calories, I was only drinking 1 diet soda a day, I thought no harm in that…..so 6 weeks later I have lost 7 pounds and at least 3″. I believe that it has a lot to do with the sodium in the soda, which I’m really sensitive to, I guess…I just feel more in control and I finally broke my plateau! I still have had some diet soda maybe once a week, but it doesn’t seem to be such a big deal. Once you break the habit, it doesn’t have such a hold on you!!!! You can do it, Tracie!!! I know you can!!!!!
Interesting… I don’t Drink diet soda that much and I have given up caffeine for over a year now..
I wonder what would happen if i gave it up completely?
