Hey Tracie! Following your blog; good luck with your new healthy lifestyle, I think you have a great approach to this. Rob and I have found that Costco is a good source for organic produce and prepared foods, at a very fair price. Rob's sister told us about a new local market (produce, etc.) located next to the Crate and Barrel at 119th. Let me know if you go there, and what you think of it. Best wishes - Sara

While at the RiverMarket & Olathe Farmers Market.. that was one of the things we kept looking for! We finally found one lady selling Eggs.. and she wanted 5.00 a dozen... OUCH! There has to be a place around the metro that sells them a bit cheaper.. I hope??
I also noticed that Farmers Market is mostly organic, some of the tables had a listing of chemicals they sprayed. (interesting)... The prices were pretty good compared to supermarket. (unless on sale) RIver market just seemed to carry wholesale produce at a marked down price.. not much organic until you got to the "smaller displays"

I've heard that if you can only get one thing that's organic - buy organic eggs. The free-range eggs do taste better - the yolks are darker, sometimes almost orange.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a uniform definition of organic, so you aren't always sure what you're getting. Probably not worth the extra expense at this point.

We don't see alot of organic stuff at the market, but I don't really think they are worth it. Would the normal celery, or whatever you buy, be the same if it was washed really good??? Come to think of it... probably not because organic stuff doesn't have the ewwy stuff that is used when growing it.

That probably doesn't make any sense! But we don't normally buy organic because of the price.

I try to stay away from it as much as possible! It's definitely bad for you. But like Amy & April said, it's hard to find things without it - I still let the kids eat a lot of things with it in it, because it's almost impossible to afford snacks that don't have it.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is something I am passionate about right now!! We have been HFCS free for a little over 2 months. It is very hard to find things without it, but I am finding more and more products are coming aboard the fight against it. Recently I found Log Cabin Syrup is HFCS free and now Hunts Ketchup. The one product I have found that is the most difficult is BREAD!! Earth Grains and Pilgrims Pride are the new choices in our house. Hot Dog and Hamburger Buns are the MOST difficult. The Cheap store brands contain it. Anything that is 100% Organic HAS TO BE HFCS FREE!! It took a few trips to the store reading ALL the labels to know what I was looking for.

I am now on a crusade to find store bought Jams and Jellies that do not have HFCS..... the only ones I have found where name Brand Organics, and it was AWFUL, lol......I am starting a blog about my family's journey in avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup. and As I find products I am going to list them. =0)
